Jomsom - Muktinath Trek |
Maximum altitude gain 3802m - This trail passes through Kali
Gandaki gorge all the way up to Jomsom and Muktinath. Muktinath
is a sacred pilgrimage sit for both Hindus and Buddhists. Sacred
springs issue from the mountainside. Prayer flags abound and
flutter in the breeze. A natural gas flame burns over the water
beneath the Temple alter. The steep mountainsides behind the
Temples are adorned with stone cairns built by pilgrims to mark
their special journey. The return journey is a comfortable
half-hour flight from Jomsom to Pokhara (or the trip can be done
in reverse order - flying from Pokhara to Jomsom before
beginning your walk).
