Trekking from Jiri |
Jiri is a hill town which is 180 kms north -east of Kathmandu.
It takes 8 days from here to reach Lukla. This is an interesting
route because the summit of Lamjura Pass (3400m) provides a
tempting views of Makalu, Gaurishankar, Everest, Lhotse plus a
rout through rhododendron forest that blooms in March -April.
You can visit the popular monastery above the beautiful village
of Junbesi and learn about Buddhist and Sherpa and Rai culture
along the way. The trails in this area are less busy and crowded
with trekkers than the route above Lukla. The villages are also
less affected by tourism than those higher up in the Khumbu..
The longest trek Jiri -Namche- Gokyo - Chola-Base-camp - Imja
valley to Chukhung and back to Jiri usually takes 31 days.
Flying out from Lukla is possible and would reduce the time
required.
